英語タイトルのLUNCH DELIVERIES ON THE RISEは「昼食配達、（業務）拡大中」です。(be) on the riseは「上昇中、増加中、拡大中」です。
今回は、社食のない企業に社員向けランチを提供しようという「デリバリー型社食」の話題です。
日常的によく使う熟語や句動詞がいくつか出てきますので、それらを中心に勉強しましょう。
Corporate workers in big cities often find it difficult to spare time to go out for lunch, and when they do, the choice of nearby eateries can be limited. This has prompted a new trend here in Japan – the rise of mass lunch deliveries straight to the office.
It's lunch time at an office in Tokyo. More than 100 boxed meals have just arrived. Lunch boxes like these typically cost about nine dollars. But here, employees get a 50-percent discount. Their company covers the difference as part of its staff welfare program.
The system also benefits the food providers because the delivery company buys a preset number of meals and takes care of everything else. The delivery company adjusts the menu to the profile of every corporate client. For example, female staff tend to choose healthy meals, while older employees prefer Japanese dishes. The strategy is paying off. Last year, sales grew by 20 percent.
Indicators show that this type of business is booming, and that employees can look forward to an ever-growing choice of options for their lunch break.

解 説
「～は～するのが大変、～するのに苦労する」といいたいとき、本文のように... find it difficult to ...の形を使えます。
when they doのdoは、spare timeを指しています。
eateryは「レストラン、食堂」です。
choice is limitedは「選択は限られている」です。limited choice「限られた選択」、limited career choice「限られた職業選択」のように、形容詞的な要素を入れて応用できます。

This has prompted a new trend here in Japan — the rise of mass lunch deliveries straight to the office.
こうした事情が、ここ日本で新たな動きを生んでいます。それは、職場直行の大規模な昼食配達業の台頭です。
解 説
文頭のthisは直前のセンテンスの内容を指しています。
trendは「全般的な方向性、傾向」です。
ここでのriseは「発生、台頭、隆盛、興り」などの意味の名詞です。give rise to ...「～を起こす、～を生じさせる」という表現もあります。
センテンス 3
It's lunch time at an office in Tokyo. More than 100 boxed meals have just arrived.
東京の、ある事務所の昼食時間です。１００を超える弁当が、ちょうど到着したところです。
解 説
boxed mealは「箱詰めにされた食事」、つまり「弁当」です。boxは「箱に入れる、箱詰めにする」という動詞としても使います。ちなみにa boxed articleといえば「四角で囲まれた記事」、つまり「囲み記事」のことです。英文雑誌でsee boxと書かれていることがありますが、これは「囲み（記事）参照」という意味です。

Lunch boxes like these typically cost about nine dollars. But here, employees get a 50-percent discount.
こうした弁当は一般的に９ドルくらいします。しかし、ここの従業員には５０パーセントの割引があります。
解 説
ここでのcostは「（費用、お金などが）かかる」という動詞です。弁当の値段は１,０００円程度で、それをドル換算してabout nine dollars「およそ９ドル」と述べています。
「～パーセント引き」は、本文のようにa ... percent discountで表せます。...の部分に数字を入れて使います。自らが値引きをするときには、give a ... percent discountやmake a ... percent discountで表せます。

会社が社員の福利厚生の一環として、差額を負担しているのです。
解 説
welfare programは「福利厚生、福祉政策」です。welfareには「支援を必要とする人に提供される実用的または金銭的な支援」という意味があり、people on welfareなら「生活保護を受けている人」です。
日本語でよく「～の一環として」という表現を使いますが、その英訳候補の１つにas part of ...があります。partには冠詞aをつけることもできるのですが、形容詞を伴うとき（例えばan important part of ...）以外は、冠詞を落として使うことが多いでしょう。

この仕組みは食品の提供業者にとっても好都合です。配達業者があらかじめ調整した数の食事を買い取り、その他すべてを引き受けてくれるからです。
解 説
デリバリーを受ける会社とその社員、弁当を作る飲食店、その２者をつなげるデリバリー型社食を手がける仲介の企業によるサービスの仕組みを、the systemと表しています。
ここでのbenefitは「～の利益になる、～にとってプラスになる、～を利する」という動詞です。
take care ofは「（人や動物の）世話をする、面倒を見る」というほかに、本文のように「（ある状況や課題などに）責任を持って取り組む、引き受ける」という意味があります。
センテンス 7
The delivery company adjusts the menu to the profile of every corporate client.
配達業者は、顧客である企業それぞれの特徴にあわせてメニューを調整しています。
解 説
adjust A to Bは「ＡをＢにあわせて調整する、調節する」です。ここでは、具体的にいうと社員の男女別、年齢別の内訳をみて弁当の最適な構成を考えることです。
日本語でも「プロフィール」と言いますが、英語のprofileは「人や物について、有益な情報を伝える記述」です。本文の場合、このあとのセンテンスにあるように、従業員の男女比や年齢構成などが配達業者にとって有益な情報であり、顧客企業のprofileとなります。

例えば、女性従業員は健康に良い食事を選ぶ傾向にあり、一方で年配の従業員は和食を好みます。この戦略は奏功しました。去年、売り上げが２割伸びたのです。
解 説
staffは集合名詞で複数の人を含んでいるため、動詞tendには三単現のsは付きません。
ここでのwhileは「時間」（～の間）ではなく「対比」を表す接続詞で、「一方」などの訳語が当たります。
the strategyは、ここでは顧客企業それぞれの特徴にあわせてメニューを調整する戦略です。
pay offは、失敗の危険もある計画や行動などが「うまくいく、（利益・効果を）あげる、もたらす」という意味です。

指標からは、この種の事業が活況を呈していることが分かります。そして従業員たちは、昼食休みの選択肢の数が増え続けることを期待できます。
解 説
boomingは「活況の、好景気の」です。booming companyなら「成長著しい企業」、booming businessなら「好景気に沸く業界」です。
look forward to ...は「～を楽しみにする、～を楽しみに待つ」です。...には名詞または動名詞（動詞のing形）が入ります。
センテンス１のthe choice of nearby eateries can be limited「近所の飲食店の選択は限られているかもしれない」を受けて、an ever-growing choice of options for their lunch break「増え続ける、昼食休みの選択肢の数」で締めくくっています。
