英語タイトルのchatは「雑談」で、SMART SPEAKER SHARES PRIVATE CHATは「スマートスピーカー、内輪の雑談を他人に伝える」です。
ＡＩ＝人工知能を搭載し、音声で家電製品の操作ができるＡＩスピーカー（スマートスピーカー）が勘違いして、夫婦の会話を勝手に録音し、音声データを知人に送信していたことが分かりました。私たちの暮らしを便利にすると注目されるＡＩスピーカーですが、プライバシーの保護などをめぐり論議を呼びそうです。

U.S. media have reported an Amazon smart speaker listened in on a couple's conversation and sent a recording of it to an acquaintance all without their knowledge.
The couple live in the western U.S. state of Oregon. They got an alarming call from one of the husband's employees earlier this month, saying he'd received an audio recording made inside their house. The couple didn't believe him until he asked if they'd been talking about hardwood floors.
The smart speaker responds to voice commands, such as to look up information or operate appliances. Amazon explained the device misheard the couple's conversation as a command to record an audio file and send it to someone on their contact list.
The wife told a local TV station they felt their privacy had been violated and they'll stop using the smart speaker.
Amazon has apologized and says it'll take steps to prevent a recurrence of what it called an "unlikely" string of events.

解　説

get a call from ...は「～から電話を受ける」です。receive a call from ...と言うこともできます。
alarmingは「不安にさせる、警戒心を抱かせる」という意味です。
英語では、同じ月（週、年）の中で発話時点よりも先と後を区別して、earlier this month（week/year）、later this month（week/year）のように言うことがよくあります。
he'd receivedは、he had receivedの短縮形です。従業員が夫婦に知らせた時点を基準に、そのときまでに「受け取っていた」ので、過去の一時点から見た過去を表すhad＋過去分詞にしています。

夫婦は彼の言うことを信じませんでしたが、フローリングの話をしていなかったかと尋ねられて、本当だと分かりました。

解　説

believe someoneは「（誰かの）言うことを本当だと信じる」です。逆に「彼の言ったことを信用しなかった」なら、didn't believe what he saidとしなくても、didn't believe himで表せます。
hardwood floorは、いわゆる「フローリング（の床）」です。「フローリング」は和製英語です。wood floorと言うこともあります。

このスマートスピーカーは、情報を調べてとか、家電製品を操作してといった、音声命令に対応します。

解　説

respond to ...は「～に反応する、～に対応する」です。
voice commandは「音声による命令」です。名詞voiceが他の名詞（command）の前に付き、形容詞的に使われています。　
look upは「調べる」で、ここではつまり「検索する」です。look up ... in the dictionaryなら「～を辞書で調べる」です。
日本語の「家電製品、電化製品」にあたる最も一般的な英語として、本文のapplianceがあります。electric appliance、home appliance、household applianceを使うこともできます。

解　説

mis-は「誤った、悪い」という意味の接頭辞で、mishearは「聞き間違える」です。mishear A as B の形で「ＡをＢだと聞き間違える」です。mis-の付く言葉はほかにも、misunderstand「誤解する」、misuse「誤用する、悪用する」、misconduct「不法行為」など、数々あります。
contact listは「連絡先リスト、住所録」です。

解　説

violate someone's privacyは「人のプライバシーを侵害する」です。
センテンスの主動詞がtoldと過去形になっていますが、they would stop using ...ではなく、they'll stop usingとなっています。テレビ局の取材からさほどの時間がたっておらず、更にこのニュース放送時にも「もう使わない」という気持ちが変わっていないものとして伝えるなら、they'll stopで問題ありません。また、they'll stop using ...がthe wife told a local TV stationからつながる妻の発言内容であることを明示するため、... and that they'll stop using ...とする手もありますが、誤解が生じる余地はないので、これも問題ありません。

解　説

take steps to ...は「～するための措置を講じる、～するための対策を取る」という表現です。
a recurrence of what it called an "unlikely" string of eventsとしているのは、「可能性の低い一連の出来事」というのが、今回の出来事に対する報道側の認識ではなく、あくまでもアマゾン側の見解であることを示すためです。
stringは「ひも、糸」で、a string of eventsは「数珠つなぎになって発生した出来事、一連の出来事」という意味です。ＡＩスピーカーが使用者の意図しないときに勝手に起動し、使用者たちの会話を誤解してそれを録音し、ファイルにして他人に送るという一連の出来事です。string「ひも」に代えてchain「鎖」を使い、a chain of eventsと言うこともできます。
