Last week, the 11-year-old won the World Othello Championship in Prague, breaking the age record set 36 years ago. Moments before taking off back to Japan, the pilot congratulated Fukuchi and then revealed a unique connection to the star player.

"Actually, I used to have the record 36 years ago in 1982. I was a world champion as well, but he broke my record. It is a very amazing achievement."
The pilot is Kunihiko Tanida. He won the world championship title when he was 15. The two have faced off in the game before. And ANA says it made special arrangements so that Tanida would be piloting the flight.
The captain says he hopes Fukuchi will keep playing the game and become someone many others will look up to.
