英語タイトルのMAJOR SHINTO EXHIBITION OF RARE ART OPENS IN U.S.は「神道の秘宝の大展覧会、アメリカで開幕」です。
アメリカ中西部で、日本古来の神道に根ざした美術品を一堂に集めた展覧会が始まり、初日から大勢の人が詰めかけました。

An exhibition of Shinto religious art opened at the Cleveland Museum of Art Tuesday.

ここでのcurateは、展覧会などを「企画する」という動詞です。

前置詞のacross ...は「～を横断して」で、across Japanは「日本中で、日本各地の」という表現です。

古く日本の首都であった奈良の神社から出展された「木造天神坐像」が、展示品に含まれています。

解　説

seatedは「座っている状態の」、deityは「神、神格」で、seated deityは「座した神」です。ここに出てくるa sculpture of a seated deityは具体的には、奈良県の與喜（よき）天満神社が所蔵する国の重要文化財「木造天神坐像」のことです。
名詞exhibitは「展示品、展覧会、証拠物件」などの意味です。動詞としては、「展示する、（感情、証拠などを）示す」という意味です。

go into doing ...は、何かが「～することに注がれる」という表現です。
動詞encounterは、思いがけなく「出会う、遭遇する、かいこうする」という意味です。名詞としては、思いがけない「出会い、遭遇、かいこう」で、ちなみにスピルバーグ監督の映画「未知との遭遇」の原題は"Close Encounters of the Third Kind"です。
tremendousは「ものすごい、途方もなく大きい、すばらしい」という形容詞です。

専門家によると、神道美術のみの展覧会がアメリカで開催されたのは４０年ぶりだということです。

解　説
