英語タイトルのTEPCOは「東京電力」、removeは「取り去る、移す」という意味で、TEPCO REMOVES NUCLEAR FUELは「東京電力が核燃料を取り出す」です。
東京電力福島第一原子力発電所３号機で、使用済み燃料プールに残された核燃料を取り出す作業が始まりました。メルトダウンを起こした原子炉建屋から核燃料を取り出すのは初めてです。
廃炉に向けた重要な作業についての英語を学習しましょう。
We turn now to northeastern Japan, where workers are making headway in decommissioning the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant. For the first time since the 2011 nuclear accident, fuel is being removed from one of three reactor buildings where meltdowns happened.
Tokyo Electric Power Company is using remote control machinery to slowly remove the fuel. The highly radioactive material is located in the storage pool of the plant's No. 3 reactor building. That's separate from the molten fuel in the reactor itself.
It's been sitting there since the massive earthquake and tsunami triggered the nuclear disaster. The fuel will be placed in a container, and then transferred to another pool at the plant.

"Safety is our top priority while checking the conditions on-site. We're in no rush to finish the work."

解 説

解 説

この作業は、予定より４年以上遅れています。
解 説
more than four yearsのmore thanは、厳密に解釈すると４年を超えた年月になり、４は含まれないことになりますが、大まかに「～以上」という意味でmore thanが用いられる場合もあります。
behind scheduleは「予定よりも遅れて」という表現です。
