The plant, loaded with nuclear fuel, set off from the port of Murmansk on Friday, heading for the town of Pevek on Russia's Arctic coast.
The country's state-run nuclear company developed the power station with the aim of supplying electricity to sparsely populated remote regions. The facility is equipped with two small reactors.
International environmental groups have warned that radioactive substances may leak from the facility if it gets hit by a tsunami or attacked by terrorists.
Russia's special presidential representative for environmental issues, Sergey Ivanov, says all possible safety measures have been taken. He says the plant will support the mining of mineral resources and lead to the decommissioning of aging nuclear and thermal power plants in rural areas.

解　説

文頭のthe countryは、ロシアを指しています。
state-runは「国営の」という形容詞です。
power stationはpower plantと同義で、「発電所」です。
with the aim of …ingは「〜する目的で」です。
ここでのpopulatedは人口の密集度を示す形容詞で、「まばらに」という意味のsparselyを前に置いて、人口が極端に少ないことを表しています。「辺境、遠隔地」という意味のremote regionがあるので、sparsely populated remote regionは「辺境の過疎地」です。

解　説

the facility「その施設」は、前のセンテンスに出てきたthe power stationを言い換えています。
be equipped with ...は「～が搭載された、装備された」です。
reactorは「原子炉」です。nuclear reactorとも言います。

国際的な環境保護団体は、もし津波を受けたら、あるいはテロリストに攻撃されたら、放射性物質がその施設から漏れるかもしれないと警告しました。

解　説

environmentalは「環境保護の」です。
leakは「Ａから漏れる」です。
get hit by a tsunamiは「津波を受ける」、get attacked by terroristsは「テロリストに攻撃される、襲われる」です。
